The NOW IS GOOD 现在很好 photography project created in 2018 in Shanghai is
inspired by the heyday of China’s sophisticated metropolis, the ‘Roaring Twenties’,
the cinematic tragedy of the concubines, the land in the era of the opium traders, real estate tycoons, gamblers, high-end dining and rickshaws. It was a place where
danger was juxtaposed with incredible opportunity. The theme of the collective
versus the individual, which is tangible in China to this day, has been recorded by
Raats with analogue (Agfa Billy 1952) as well as digital equipment.
